Agarwood oil is extracted from resinous wood of Aquilaria agallocha by hydro-steam distillation process. It is commonly called as aguru, aloeswood, aoud, eaglewood, gaharu, jinkhu, ood, oud and oudh. Agarwood tree is native to South and Southeast Asia. It is an evergreen tree that can grow to forty meters.
The tree produces a dark aromatic resin when they become infected with a type of mold (Phialophora parasitica). Prior to infection, the heartwood is odorless, relatively light and pale colored; however, as the infection progresses, the tree produces the resin, called aloes or agar, in response to the attack, which results in a very dense, dark, resin-embedded heartwood. This resin-embedded wood is highly valued in perfume industry for its distinctive fragrance.
The aromatic qualities of agarwood are influenced by the species, geographic location, age, length of time since infection, methods of harvesting and processing.
This oil is produced from more than twenty years old and naturally infected agarwood trees organically grown in wild environment of Bangladesh.
